Manchester United Transfer News and Rumors: Manchester Chasing Pochettino?

Manchester United's long pursuit for a new manager seemed to have ended with reports of Jose Mourinho having signed a pre-contract but according to The Sun, the Red Devils have shifted their focus to Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine, who has sparked a remarkable title tilt for Tottenham Hotspur, has been in United's sights for some time and the chief executive of the club, Ed Woodward, has been taking advice from those who matter about a possible bid to take him to Old Trafford in the summer when Dutchman Louis van Gaal leaves.

According to reports in the British press from a month ago, Pochettino was in the reckoning for the United job with Jose Mourinho and recent developments suggest that the hierarchy at the club might finally make a move for the Spurs manager. Pochettino, who has shown the ability to nurture and fast track youth talents at Spurs and at his previous club Southampton, is a manager who is thought to be an excellent fit for Manchester United, a club famed for its youth academy products. Although Jose Mourinho is without doubt a more accomplished manager, with a far better trophy laden CV; his acrimonious spell at Chelsea and his inability to make his teams play free flowing attacking football could prove to be stumbling blocks. Pochettino, on the other hand, has made Spurs play tactically sound attacking football that has made him one of the favourites to be in the Old Trafford dug out after the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur, who are chasing their first league title in 55 years , are going to resist any offers for their manager and are most likely to offer him a new deal to stave off any approach from rival clubs. However, it is interesting to note that Jose Mourinho is currently being considered for the vacant managerial position at Velencia after the sacking of Gary Neville and if he is appointed by the Spanish club then the chances of Pochettino joining Manchester United will only rise. Current manager Louis van Gaal's position at Old Trafford hasn't changed despite the recent win in the Manchester Derby.
