Discovery Channel’s ‘Eaten Alive’ Disappoints All Around; Stunt Ends Before it Begins
Discovery Channel's much touted and advertised program ,"Eaten Alive", has left a lot of viewers fuming and disappointed.
Paul Rosolie, a naturalist , in his bid to raise awareness about the Amazonian anaconda and its conservation, attempted the feat allowing the giant snake to swallow him, albeit in full battle gear.
Rosolie, 28, wore a special uncrushable suit and covered himself in pig's blood before offering himself as bait. What viewers got was a lot of build up with the actual event getting over quick when the naturalist tapped himself out after the snake wrapped tightly around him .
Viewers who were expecting to see this journey inside the belly of the snake were disappointed. The environmentalist said that he had to call it off as he could feel himself being squeezed tight.
"I started to feel the blood drain out of my hand and I felt the bone flex, and when I got to the point where I felt like [my arm] was going to snap I had to tap out," he said, reports Seattle pi.
The event was not aired live, it was taped and in November, Rosolie spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his attempt but failed to give full details about how far he made it into the belly. "I am actually not allowed to say anything," he said. "I can tell you that the thing beat the shit out of me and constricted me. As for as actual consumption went, I'm not allowed to say."
Rosolie's bid drew criticism from animal lovers and organisations like Change.org and PETA, who wanted the network to not air the program and said the attempt instead of promoting awareness might have harmed the animal.
Be as it may, the efforts of television channels to push the envelope in an attempt to raise TRPs sometimes defy description. Discovery already is airing 'Tethered' and 'Naked and Afraid', one about two strangers attempting two survive tied to each other and the other as the name suggests, surviving naked in difficult environments. Both the shows are drawing viewers.
