The Candidates chess tournament witnessed a dramatic end after Sergey Karjakin triumphed over Fabiano Caruana in the last round. He not only won the tournament but also achieved the challenger position against reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen. He will be facing Magnus Carlsen for the world chess title in New York this November. Sergery Karjakin achieved the Grand Master title when he was just 12 years ten months old in the year 2002. He will be meeting his peer Carlsen, who is just 10 months 18 days younger to him in the World title match.
The Norwegian compatriot Magnus Carlsen has been hailed as one of the greatest chess player of all time. He was at his peak when he touched an Elo rating of 2876 and surpassing Garry Kasparov's all-time best of 2851. He also achieved the status world No.1 chess player in 2010 and except for some slight downfalls he has maintained a comfortable lead against his rivals over the time. Carlsen has two World Championship titles to his crown, both which he registered against V Anand in the year 2013 and 2014. According to a report Magnus Carlsen gave "thumbs up" to Karjakin as his challenger and told that he would be waiting for the showdown with necessary preparation. However the odds seem to favour Carlsen over Karjakin. But Karjakin is potential challenger in the present circumstances against Carlsen.
It would be an interesting match between the two as the players have different approaches. Magnus Carlsen is known for his speedy calculations and is a master at forcing his opponents to commit errors through his deceptive techniques. While Karjakin is from the Russian school of chess has a superior endgame strategy and has a great clarity in concepts pertaining to chess. However Karjakin does not have a good record against Carlsen,in the classical format of the game he has faced three defeats and have managed to win only once against him. While have settled for a draw in 15 matches.
