William Shatner Sued For $170M By Man Who Claims To Be His Son
William Shatner, at 85, has discovered that he may be having a new son. And he found out the "truth" in an expensive way. He is being sued for $170 million by a 59-year-old radio DJ, who says that the actor is his father.
Peter Sloan, filing a lawsuit in a Florida court, explained that his mother, Canadian actress Kathy McNeil, had an affair with the "Star Trek" actor when they had a fling in Toronto. Five days after he was born, his mother gave him up for adoption.
However, Shatner has dismissed the radio host's lawsuit, claiming that it is just an unfair bid to make a profit from the connection.
Sloan's court documents explain that Sloan and Shatner met during the shooting of "T.J. Hooker" in California, 1984. At that time, Shatner called him his son.
Yet, a week later, Sloan called his father, but Shatner hung up quickly. Sloan got back a phone call from Shatner's rep, who reported that Shatner had refused the paternity and will not submit to any DNA test.
Mum is the word, said Shatner's rep to Sloan. Do not breathe a word about this, or it may have a "horrendous" effect on the actor's career.
Another meeting took place 25 years later, after which Sloan changed his name to Peter Shatner. He used his name at a CBS radio show and even on his website.
When he asked for another paternity test in 2011, Sloan got the following response from his legal rep: "[Shatner] confirmed to me once again that he is not your father. There have been many people over the years who have claimed to be his children or other relatives. He is an incredibly busy, eighty-year-old man, and is not interested in spending time discussing this issue with you or any such individuals."
Sloan is seeking "$90 million in punitive damages, $50 million for pain and suffering and $30 million in compensatory damages."
