Western Conference powerhouse San Antonio Spurs is fast becoming a real threat to the Golden State Warriors. Last year, they acquired LaMarcus Aldridge to their pool of talent. With ace players Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili training the younger generation of players poised to take on lead roles in a not-so-distant future, Gregg Popovich's team seems confident to meet Stephen Curry-led squad head on.

However, Tim Duncan shall leave the basketball scene soon. This puts Spurs in a precarious situation in search for a replacement ace player to pick up the slack. The rumored farewell surfaced after Kobe Bryant's much publicized retirement after a long career with LA Lakers.

Another lead player feared to leave NBA soon is the Argentine-born Ginobili. His recent comments have been taken by analysts as hints to the likelihood of his retirement.

"I take the seasons month by month, not season by season. I know I have one more Olympics in me. If I have another season, we'll see," said Ginobili as quoted by Gospel Herald.

As of the moment, there are speculations of Spurs laying eyes on Kevin Durant who is likely to get attractive offers from various NBA teams. Other teams like the Warriors, Heat, Rockets, and Thunder are all expected to make an aggressive sales pitch to hook him up to their side as reported by Ecumenical News.

So can San Antonio Spurs afford a highly sought-after Durant?

Most observers that Durant's market value will increase significantly once he becomes a free agent. But the hefty financial requirement will put the Durant deal on the precipice. Despite some obvious limitations, Duncan's possible exit could help the team adjust Durant's salary cap as reported by Yibada.
