NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo could be headed to the Lakers
The latest trade rumors surrounding Boston Celtics' Rajon Rondo hint to a possible trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. After a picture surfaced of Rondo getting breakfast with Lakers star Kobe Bryant, the rumors heated up. However, according to a source reported by ESPN, the two superstars have been planning a meet-up for weeks.
Even though the social gathering was most likely one between friends and not potential teammates, its does not mean that the Lakers are not interested in Rondo. Some sources are reporting that Rondo is high on the Lakers' list.
"You don't want Rondo? Send him my way. I love everything about him. Everything. I love his attitude, I love his chippiness, his edge, his intellect, his know-it-allness. All of it. That's what makes championship players," Bryant once said in 2013 to ESPNBoston.com. "What guard have you seen at his size that will get you 18 assists, 17 boards and 20 points all in one game? That's unheard of. I love that kid. I always make a point of talking to him during All-Star [Weekend]. He's one of my favorites."
However, other sources are reporting that the two teams are not actively talking about a potential trade. The Celtics have also reportedly expressed their desire to re-sign Rondo, who will become a free agent at the end of the season.
"While there are no active talks between the two franchises involving a trade for Rondo, sources said the teams did have a brief discussion a few months ago," Ramona Shelburne with ESPN wrote. "Their willingness to engage in talks regarding Rondo is merely informational at this point, sources said."
If the Celtics decide not to trade Rondo, they will have to offer him a good enough deal to get him to stay or risk losing him to another team for nothing.
