NBA Rumors: Pacers Ty Lawson Arrested For DUI

Indiana Pacers point guard Ty Lawson has just escaped a possible damning end to his NBA career on Tuesday after a count court judge handed him a one-year probation instead of jail time as a result of Driving Under Influence (DUI) charge filed against the veteran player last year. This gives him a fresh opportunity to lean back and think of averting another complaint for the same offense.

Contrary to what the prosecutors have been aiming for, Lawson's defense lawyer Harvey Steinberg managed to get him off jail time after pleading guilty to drunken driving, Sports Rageous reported.

Instead, the point guard was required to pay a $1, 571 fine, fulfill a two-day community service, and attend 52 hours of therapy sessions for alcoholics on top of his one-year probation.

Judge Olympia Z. Fay scolded him as he was handed with the sentence saying, ""You have a terrible history. You are going down a bad path" as stated in a Christian Post report.

However, Prosecutor Chris Curtis thinks that Lawson should receive at least a 45-day jail time to make learn the lesson the hard way. After all, NBA baller also had two previous DUI charges in 2008 and 2011.

"Mr. Lawson thinks this is no big deal," a disappointed Curtis remarked as quoted by ESPN.

The prosecutor further said, "What does it take to get Ty Lawson to stop doing this? What happens when the next DUI ends with a car crash? People will ask, 'why didn't he have any consequence'," as reported by the Denver Post.

Meanwhile, Indiana Pacers is set to face the New Orleans Pelicans tonight with odds tilting toward Indiana's favor. The team currently sits at number 7 spot in the Conference just behind the Pistons, Bulls, and the Wizards.

With shifting fortunes on the court, Indy Pacers current standing is far from secure.

"Chicago has a pretty favorable schedule; Detroit has a pretty favorable schedule. We don't have the feeling right now that our spot is guaranteed. We should have a little pressure and hopefully that helps us perform better," said Paul George as quoted in a report by the Indy Star.
