Lee Min-Ho News: Korean Actor Donates Nearly $50k to UNICEF
Korean star actor Lee Min-ho donated close to $50k to UNICEF through his donation platform Promiz. This donation could be used to buy 6.25 million water-purification tablets, providing 520,000 children with the ability to turn dirty water into drinking water, thus preventing the spread of waterborne diseases.
Lee Min-ho launched Promiz in early 2014 to work on charitable projects. The name is a combination of "Promise" with the name of Lee Min Ho's fan club, "Minoz."
"I always believe that sharing love with those in need and promoting good causes is something that I can do and should do," Lee said. "I will do my best to share the goal of UNICEF to provide clean water to as many children as possible."
Lee Min-ho first got widespread fame with Boys Over Flowers as Gu Jun-pyo in 2009. The role won him several awards, including the Best New Actor award in the category of television at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Currently Lee Min Ho and Miss A Suzy is still dating.
Transforming from a recipient country to a donor country, the Korean Committee for UNICEF (KCU) was launched in January 1994.
The Korean Committee's major roles are to generate funds for UNICEF programmes, promote the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and mobilize interest in the state of the world's children. KCU raises funds through direct mail, UNICEF greeting cards and products sales, the "Change for Good" coin-collection programme, school fundraising, corporate alliances, city partnerships and special events.
