Leonardo DiCaprio: The Revenant’ Fever Hits Tokyo, Attends Japanese Premier
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio received a splendid welcome in Tokyo, where he attended the Japanese premiere of his Oscar winning movie, 'The Revenant' on March 23, 2016.
The premiere took place at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo and attracted a large and excited audience. According to Reuters, the frenzied fans dressed up as bears to welcome the actor to commemorate an iconic scene in the movie where he gets mauled by a bear. 'The Revenant' revolves around the life of a fur trapper who is abandoned by his company in the wake of a bear attack and seeks revenge. The movie fetched DiCaprio his first Oscar while its director Alejandro Inarritu bagged the Oscar for Best Director.
DiCaprio, who is famous for his nonchalant attitude towards awards, spoke during a press conference about his motivation for continuing to be part of the film industry. He claims that while the Oscar brought him happiness, it is his ideals and dreams of what he wants to achieve as an actor that fuels his drive to perform consistently well.
While speaking to the crowd in Tokyo, he expressed his gratitude and pride of being part of the film industry and claimed that 'The Revenant' was a groundbreaking venture. DiCaprio also thanked the Oscar committee for bestowing the movie with multiple awards, especially the biggest categories namely Best Actor and Best Director.
DiCaprio also used the opportunity to talk about climate change which is a subject he is passionate about. The Guardian reported that DiCaprio aimed a thinly veiled attack on Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, who have claimed that climate change is a myth. He was of the opinion that the next leader of America must not be someone who denounced reason and dismissed modern science. The actor, who has signed a partnership with Netflix to make green-themed films, also urged the crowd to consider the importance of understanding that climate change is one of the most pressing issues of the current world.
