Legend of Zelda Release Date and News: A Link to the Past Nintendo Wii U Release Remains in Limbo

Nintendo originally announced the release of The Legend of Zelda for its Wii U console back in January 2013. Three years have already passed but a confirmed date for its official launching is nowhere in sight.

With repeated delays, Nintendo has been notoriously silent as fans anxiously wait for its release. Just last year, the gaming giant postponed its 2015 holiday release of the game. Now, rumors have been circulating that the game is set to launch this year.

Currently, speculative reports indicate that the purported release of the open-world Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past will coincide with the launching of NX Console at E3 2016 as reported by Alphr. Are we seeing a possible Wii U/NX crossover for Zelda?

Forbes, on the other hand, predicts a Nintendo NX reveal around May this year with the cross-platform game due for release in December just in time for the holidays.

In its defense, Movie Pilot thinks that the repeated delays of Zelda's release dates were largely due to the complexities involved in remastering of the game using new hardware and software technology. Also, new ideas and concepts are currently being fitted to create something new adding a surprising twist to the game series.

Meanwhile, a report from Japanese paper Nikkei reportedly spells an end to Nintendo's production of Wii console as the company transitions to NX device this year. Wii seems like a sinking and unprofitable platform so it is only logical for Nintendo to terminate its production including the peripherals as reported by Venture Beat.

Well, the proposed end is just a matter of time. By mere sales standards, Wii U performance is considered a major failure. Its predecessor, on the other hand, was a major hit with 100 million units sold before being phased out. With Wii U, only about 12.6 million units were sold since 2012. Its contemporaries such as Sony's Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One approximately sold 37 million and 19 million units respectively as stated in a report by Stuff.
