Bill Cosby Counter-sues Alleging Extortion By Sex Case Vicitm
Bill Cosby has been hit with a slew of suits by females alleging sexual assault but the comedian is not ready to admit that he committed any offense.
The latest allegation is by Judy Huth who filed a suit saying that she was assaulted by him in 1974 at a Playboy Mansion. Now Cosby's lawyer Martin Singer has filed a counter suit alleging Huth attempted to extort money from him before filing the case. He says she asked for $100,000 in exchange for her silence and pushed up the money to $250,000 when other allegations came forward, reports the Associated Press.
Cosby is seeking more than $33,000 from Huth and her attorney in his counter suit."(Huth's) claims are absolutely false," Cosby's filing states.
Singer claims that he had several meetings with Huth's attorneyMarc S. Strecker where he put forth the demand for his money, which was rejected.
Huth claimed in her lawsuit that she discovered she had suffered psychological trauma after she read about the other women who had suffered the same sexual assault as her. California law allows filing charges under such circumstances.
Cosby's lawyer claims that Huth had tried to sell her story to a tabloid nearly a decade ago and she had not got a proper certificate recording her trauma .
Police Chief Charlie Beck of Los Angeles said that his department would undertake an investigation into Cosby allegations even if t they were outside the statute of limitations for prosecution.
"We don't turn people away because things are out of statute. You come to us, especially with a sexual allegation, we will work with you," Beck said, according the Los Angeles Times. "We address these things seriously -- and it's not just because it's Mr. Cosby."
