Larry Drake, 'L.A. Law' Star, Found Unexpectedly Dead At 66
The Emmy Award-winning star, Larry Drake of "L.A. Law," is laid to rest now, says his rep.
He acted as Benny in "L.A. Law." Though the reason for his death is not clear, a friend came across his dead friend by chance at his home in Hollywood.
As Benny Stulwicz in "L.A. Law," he had been a "developmentally disabled office assistant," who traced his journey through getting a job, finding his apartment and accosting his girlfriend. At times, he had to fight for his legal rights with advocates who employed him.
Drake handled the role with progressive dexterity, say critics. He went back to the series from 1987-94.
Having been thrice nominated for the Emmy role in 1988, 1989 and 1990, he won after the first two nominations. And in 2002, he reprised the role for "L.A. Law: The Movie."
He acted in Sam Raimi's Liam Neeson fantasy action film "Darkman" (1990) as Robert G. Durant, which went on to more sequels.
As a homicidal physician he was another star in a 1992 horror movie named "Dr. Giggles."
He played a supporting role in "Bean," a fascinating 1997 comedy and then essayed Natalie's father in "American Pie 2", 2001.
TV shows also featured him. ABC's sci-fi series "Prey" in 1998 had him as Dr. Walter Attwood. His most recent role was in a 2009 horror film "Dead Air."
He had started in small movie roles in the 1970s.
Being twice married to Ruth de Sosa (1989-91) and Marina Drujko (2009), he also faced two divorces.
