‘Happy are the Denmark’- tops as the happiest nation on Earth
COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Denmark, perhaps better known for its fictional, suicide-agonizing prince Hamlet and fierce marauding Vikings than being a nation of the happiest people, has just won that very accolade. Again.
The World Happiness Report has released the fourth Distribution of World Happiness with its central purpose to survey the scientific underpinnings of measuring and understanding subjective well-being.
The fourth World Happiness Report also found that countries where there was less inequality were happier the most.
Denmark strikes Switzerland as the happiest place, according to the report the nation upholds equality and security which drives the citizens to be happy and satisfied about their surroundings and environment. This helps realize other nation to tackle inequality and the environment, regardless of the wealth.
Knud Christensen, a 39-year-old social worker, knows one reason why his compatriots are laid-back - they feel secure in a country with few natural disasters, little corruption and a near absence of drastic events.
"We have no worries," Christensen said smiling, as he stood on a Copenhagen street near the capital's City Hall. "And if we do worry, it's about the weather. Will it rain today, or remain gray or will it be cold?" TVJ
Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Finland, which like Denmark have strong social security systems, made up the rest of the top five happiest countries.
The US was the world's 13th happiest country, the UK was 23rd, the Philippines was 82nd, and the India was 118th.
At the bottom of the 156 countries on the list was Burundi, which is experiencing severe political unrest and unjust system and also the threat of violence. It scored worse than Syria, where a civil war has killed more than 250,000 people over the past five years.
