iPhone 7 Release Date, Specs, News and Rumors: Leaks Show Apple's Dual Lens Camera

Speculation about a dual-lens system for the iPhone 7 has been rife ever since its predecessor was launched September last year. Leaked images now floating online suggest there may be some truth to them.

Apple iPhone cameras have delivered more than what they promised on paper, thanks to the phones' intelligent software processing. While the Cupertino giant's Android competition, led by Samsung, continued to bump-up mega-pixels, Apple refrained. Subsequently, the rumored move to a dual-lens system is a certain break from tradition.

Images surfaced earlier this week on Chinese and Taiwanese websites purportedly showing iPhone 7, with a rear-mounted dual-lens camera. The websites claimed images were taken at manufacturing units of Apple's partners. It cannot be ascertained from the images if a dual-lens cameras will be provided on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Dual-lens cameras, like those on LG G5, are greatly expected to enhance the iPhone's camera prowess. Besides providing multiple focal lengths that improve image quality with optical zoom, two camera lenses can allow improved simultaneous shooting and video capture. Though the feature has been around since the iPhone 5 and honed in the iPhone 6S with faster processors, a two-lens setup on a faster iPhone 7 (or iPhone 7 Plus) can set benchmarks!

Other, more convincing leaked images have also emerged that purportedly show the new iPhone. This one, allegedly taken at a Foxconn, facility reveals antenna band similar to the iPhone 6S. Another image used by Forbes shows a dual-lens camera with barcodes that may tie it to the new iPhone.

Speculated leaks of iPhone 7 images do not reveal whether Apple's 2016 flagship device will feature a headphone jack. The headphone jack was said to be hampering Apple in thinning its phones; following a patent and market analysis reports, an iPhone 7 with only Lightning and Bluetooth for couple headphones is now convincing.
