The Bachelor 2016's choice of winner and the next Bachelorette has been slammed for lacking diversity as it has been observed that both Lauren Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher are both White and take on the stereotypes of the typical American sweetheart.

According to a source, the dating show has been following this trend in their 31 seasons with The Bachelor and The Bachelorette choosing only have four winners of non-white ancestry. Although the winners are classified as 'diverse', yet they have not asserted their color, particularly the women who took 'Anglicized names and light-enough skin.'

There were also questions why JoJo Fletcher was suddenly groomed as the next Bachelorette when ABC was previously reportedly prepping Caila Quinn, who is American-Filipina, for the role.

The possibility to choose a diverse contestant was previously reinforced with ABC chief Paul Lee who said, "I'd be very surprised if [the bachelorette] in the summer isn't diverse. Maybe I shouldn't have said that, but I think that's likely to happen."

But then, Lee was ousted from the network last month for reasons undisclosed but believed to be related to his earlier statement on diversity.

With the issue of diversity in a corner, the public is now scrutinizing JoJo Fletcher's personal background and fortunately, in her bio (which is not featured on television), she declared there that her mom is of Persian ancestry.

"My mom is Persian, and my Dad was born and raised in Tennessee. I'm proud of my mother's background despite what social opinions are. It's important for me to stand up to people stereotyping Iranians," she declared.

When TV host, Chris Harrison was made to comment on the diversity issue, he just made a neutral statement and welcomes it saying 'it's great to have that conversation [around diversity] going.'

Meanwhile, Ben Higgins, who also deviated from the norm by saying 'I love you' to two girls before the proposal, supported ABC's decision to choose JoJo as the next Bachelorette.

"First off, JoJo as the bat, I think she deserves it. How they decide on 'The Bachelorette' is not up to me. I didn't even know I was in consideration to be the next 'Bachelor' until they called me," he said.
