AlphaGo vs Lee Sedol Match 5: Why Did Lee Sedol Choose Black Stone?

The board game Go hasn't been widely spoken globally than recently.

Go is an abstract strategy board game for two players, in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent.

AlphaGo vs Lee Sedol has drawn incredible amount of viewers. Today at 11 pm Easter Time, the final match will be played. Lee openly said he wants to grab a black stone and try to beat AlphaGo since he has already beaten it with white stone.

Lee won his first game in match 4 against AI machine with his creative moves. (He was down 0-3)

After gaining confidence through the victory Lee has decided to choose black stone to test his limit and AlphaGo has accepted the suggestion.

Lee said "AlphaGo is rather weaker holding black stone"

However, Lee has lost match 1 and 3 holding black stone. It came too late to change the result of the series - AlphaGo clinched it on Saturday with its third consecutive win. But Lee's victory reversed the event's tone, giving strenght the Go community, and the whole region.

Victory isn't the only goal for Deep Mind. AlphaG developer were excited by the program's defeat on Sunday as it gave them a chance to find out its weaknesses.

"That's why we have these matches," Deep Mind co-founder Demis Hassabis said at a press conference that followed the third match on Friday. "To find out if there's something missing. We need someone of the incredibly skill of Lee to creatively explore what weaknesses AlphaGo maybe has, so we can see them."

Google DeepMind has offered $1 million in prize money for the winner. Now that AlphaGo alreadyh won Google will donate the prize money to UNICEF, STEM and Go charities.
