'Pokémon GO!’ Release Date and Rumors: Beta Version to Be Released in Japan

By Staff Reporter - 11 Mar '16 10:28AM

'Pokémon GO!' news has revealed that the Beta version release date has been confirmed for Japan, hinting at a near release for the highly-anticipated game.

Niantic announced that its Beta version, only available on the Japanese site, will be released this month. The aim of releasing this beta version is to get feedback and improve the mobile app game.

The company wrote on their website, "The 'Pokémon GO!' field test program will give users the opportunity to share early feedback and help improve the 'Pokémon GO' experience. Please stay tuned for information about expansion of the field test to other markets. Thank you for your interest in 'Pokémon GO!'"

Registration is now open for players in the country. To make an account, each registrant needs to have an iOS or Android device as well as an account on Google. According to Polygon, Niantic has limited spots for those who actually get to participate. Those who are approved will also have to keep the content confidential.

Still the game's release date for the actual game remains unknown. Niantic scheduled to have a panel at this year's Game Developers Conference to reveal more information on "Pokemon Go!", yet canceled to focus on the game's development.

Boss John Hanke told Gamespot, "We have decided to forego our GDC talk on 'Pokémon GO!' in order to focus on getting the product ready for beta test and launch. As much as we hate to disappoint those in the industry attending GDC, we feel our time and energy right now are best spent on making sure every aspect of the product is where we want it to be."

"Pokémon GO!" is also planned to be released with a "Pokémon GO!" Plus wrist device.
