East Coast Tornadoes Leave Death And Destruction In Wake
At least eight people have been killed in the two days since by a stormy weather unleashed tornadoes along the East Coast.
According to CBS News, five deaths were recorded Wednesday with at least three reported in Virginia alone. Two men and a two-year-old were among the dead when a twister tore through their mobile home. The severe weather has also left several thousands without power.
CNN reports that 52 tornadoes have been reported in the two days since the storm engulfed the country. A tornado watch was setup along the East Coast. Twisters descended in Virginia, Florida and North Carolina on Wednesday. Rain and hail were witnessed in parts of East Coast while strong winds gusting over 100 mph were felt in Florida.
Several people reported chaotic traffic conditions and escaping the twisters by fate. Rescue workers were seen helping the injured and those trapped in debris. Many homes in Virginia were left destroyed in the wake of tornadoes. Gov. Terry McAuffile declared emergency in the state.
Though the threat of tornadoes was said to be over, weather professionals warned that the system could bring snow to areas around the Great Lakes.
