Miami Heats Chris Bosh is Dealing with another Blood Clot Scare
Chris Bosh of the Miami Heats is reportedly dealing with another blood clot scare.
Several media outlets have reported that Bosh missed the All-Star Game this past Sunday due to a left calf strain that could actually be related to a blood clot issue. Henry Thomas, Bosh's agent, cautioned that it was "too soon to report" that Bosh has a blood clot, The Miami Herald stated. The Herald added that a league source said the blood clot is not life threatening.
The NBA veteran will be seeing the doctors on Thursday to evaluate the situation and to decide on a treatment course.
Bosh had a health scare when doctors found blood clots in his lungs toward the end of the 2014-15 season. At the time Bosh was treated with blood thinners and had to sit out the final 30 games of the season.
Bosh spoke in September about the blood clots and the possibility that they could come back.
"The recurring risk comes from a hereditary gene," Bosh had explained. "Fortunately, I don't have that. That was one of the dangers I faced earlier, was, 'Am I going to be able to play the game?' Because if this test comes back that it's a recurring thing, it's going to be a problem. Anyone, if they don't take the precautions, it can be a recurring thing, yes. But I'm a lot smarter now. I know about the precautions."
If the doctors decide that he needs to be on blood thinners again, his season could very well be over. Doctors generally will not recommend professional athletes who are on blood thinners to participate in high-energy sports, like basketball.
Bosh has been averaging 19.1 points with 7.4 rebounds.
