Clippers Coach Doc Rivers says Blake Griffin is Regretful for his Behavior
Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers has spoken out about Blake Griffin's recent physical altercation with a team employee, stating that the power forward has expressed his sincere regret over what happened. Rivers added that all they can do now is forgive him and move forward with the rest of the season.
"He feels awful about it, and he's let everyone know that," Rivers said. "That's all you can do. You have to forgive people at some point. I believe that. We built Richard Nixon a library. I mean, my goodness. You forgive people. You really do. You kind of move on, and you build it back."
Rivers said that the team's investigation has ended. He did say whether or not the Clippers will be punishing Griffin for his off-court actions.
"We're very satisfied with all the information we have," Rivers said. "For us, it's closed. Obviously the league has to do something."
Griffin fought with Matias Testi, the Clippers' assistant equipment manager, at a Toronto restaurant on Jan. 23. In the fight, Griffin, who reportedly threw punches inside and outside of the restaurant, injured his right hand. The fracture will sideline him for about four to six weeks.
Prior to the injury, Griffin was very close to returning to the team's lineup. He had been sitting out since Dec. 26 due to a left quadriceps injury. Without Griffin on the court, the Clippers have stepped up their game, winning the majority of their games over the past weeks.
The NBA is investigating the case and will decide on the proper form of punishment.
