LaMarcus Aldridge Clarifies Reasons why he is off Social Media
One day after LaMarcus Aldridge's worst performance of the season in the blowout game against the Golden State Warriors, Aldridge deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Although the four-time NBA All-Star was never very active on either account, many were quite to speculate that he deleted the accounts due to his poor performance. Aldridge was 2-for-9 with five points and three turnovers in the 120-90 loss. After the game, he was receiving a lot of criticisms on social media.
Aldridge, however, said Wednesday after the Spurs defeated the Houston Rockets 130-99 that he deleted the accounts in order to focus solely on the rest of the season.
"I just wanted to lock. It had nothing to do about that game," Aldridge said. "This is new adventure for me. I've never been in this system, with this team. I've never been on a top two team in the West. So I just wanted to lock in on my season right now. It had nothing to do with that game. That's the reason. I wanted to lock in."
In the game against the Rockets, Aldridge was 9-for-13 with a team-high of 25 points, five assists and 10 rebounds. This was the third time so far in this season that Aldridge recorded at least 25 points and 10 rebounds, which was something he did 18 times last season with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Aldridge is not the first NBA player to choose to get off of social media during the season. Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James is known for suspending all of his social media accounts around playoff time to get rid of unnecessary distractions.
Aldridge is averaging 15.9 points with 8.8 rebounds in his first season with the Spurs.
