Florida State has settled with the woman who accused former star quarterback Jameis Winston of rape in 2012.

As a part of the agreement, which was announced on Monday, FSU will be paying former student Erica Kinsman $950,000, which includes all of Kinsman's attorney fees ($700,000). FSU also agreed to commit to a five-year plan to incorporate programs that can increase awareness about sexual assault and prevent them from happening.

"I will always be disappointed that I had to leave the school I dreamed of attending since I was little," Kinsman, who filed the complaint more than a year ago, said in a statement. "I am happy that FSU has committed to continue to make changes in order to ensure a safer environment for all students."

FSU's President John Thrasher stated, "We have an obligation to our students, their parents and Florida taxpayers to deal with this case, as we do all litigation, in a financially responsible manner. With all the economic demands we face, at some point it doesn't make sense to continue even though we are convinced we would have prevailed."

He added that although FSU is not admitting to doing anything wrong, they are settling in order to avoid being in a costly lawsuit

"Although we regret we will never be able to tell our full story in court, it is apparent that a trial many months from now would have left FSU fighting over the past rather than looking toward its very bright future," he said. "We have decided to instead move forward even though we have full faith that the ultimate outcome of a trial would have been consistent with the previous law enforcement investigations and retired Supreme Court Justice Major Harding's findings in the student conduct hearing."

According to USA TODAY Sports, the "lump sum is the largest settlement for Title IX claims regarding indifference to a student's reported sexual assault."

The settlement is no way connected to and should not affect an ongoing investigation that is being carried out by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights. Kinsman had filed her complaint with the agency in 2014.

Kinsman had accused Winston of raping her in his apartment. Winston admitted to having consensual sex with Kinsman and was not found guilty by FSU. He has since been drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kinsman's lawsuit against the school alleged that authorities were "deliberately indifferent" to her when she told them about the sexual assault. She also accused FSU of trying to obstruct the investigation so that Winston could continue playing for the football team.
