'Friends' Will Not Have A Reunion, Producer Says
Friends co-creator, Marta Kauffman released a statement this week that the much-loved TV sitcom will not have a reunion contrary to last week's buzz.
"There will never be a Friends reunion movie," the sitcom co-creator said at the 2016 Winter TCA Press Tour as she was busy promoting Netflix's new series Grace and Frankie, as reported by E! Online.
Since Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and their former co-star Dolly Parton were already reunited on-screen thus media sources are also considering the possibility of a reboot of the 1990s sitcom.
Kauffman, however, insisted that her priority right now is the creation of Grace and Frankie.
Season two is not the right time, spoiler alert. But here's the deal. We're still, I feel, creating a world. And the world is Grace and Frankie. The minute you bring Dolly in, whom I love by the way, it's 9 to 5. No matter what you do, the thought is it's a 9 to 5 reunion, and you're taken out of the show," she explained.
David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller in the sitcom, also confirmed the impossibility of an on-screen reunion, according to Express.co.uk
"I mean, in no way is it a Friends reunion when one member is out of the country," Schwimmer said referring to Matthew Perry who is in London involved in a play at West End.
In an earlier interview, Schwimmer said that yes, there is a special and not a total reunion. Further, the special show is in honor of the late director, Jimmy Burrows.
"It's a tribute to Jimmy Burrows who we love and I'm just thrilled to be a part of it. As many of us that can be there will be there and the casts of so many shows are going to try to be there - Frasier, Cheers, Will and Grace, it goes on. Taxi."
"This man is an incredible director who helped define situation comedy in this country in the last 40 years so I love him and I'm excited to be there," he added.
Matthew Perry who guested at The Graham Norton Show last Friday explained that the original Friends cast-Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will join only for 'a documentary.'
"It's not the reunion everyone is hoping for, they are celebrating Jim Burrows who was a director of Friends. The other five [Friends] are going to be on this special and I am going to introduce them from London. I'm doing the play here so I can't be there," he said in a report by Daily Mail.
