NBA Trade Rumors: Five Teams that Need a Trade

By Cheri Cheng - 03 Dec '14 11:16AM

We are about one month into the NBA season and teams are starting to get an idea about their lineups. For the teams that have come out dominating last month, trade talk might not be a huge priority. For teams that have not found their spark, however, trades could make or break them for the rest of the season.

Here are five teams that should change up their roster:

1. Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are currently third in pace with 100.16 possessions per 48 minutes and fifth in assists with a percentage of 62.6. Despite playing relatively well for a young team that is still rebuilding, the Boston Celtics are only 4-10. In order to boost their winning percentage, the team should consider trading some key players.

One key player is four-time All-Star, 28-year-old Rajon Rondo who will have unrestricted free agency next summer. Even though the Celtics have stated that they do not plan on trading Rondo, rumors are swirling that the team will have to or risk losing Rondo next year for nothing.

Other trade options include Brandon Bass and Jeff Green.

2. Phoenix Suns

On paper, the Phoenix Suns' trio consisting of point guards Isaiah Thomas, Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic could be a force to reckon with since they are players that are very hard to defend. Although other teams have had some difficulty defending them, all three players' field goal percentages have fallen. The Suns have learned that playing all three players have been ineffective, which suggests that a trade might be necessary.

If the Suns do not want to end their three-point guard experiment early, they should focus on adding more depth up front.

3. New York Knicks

The New York Knicks have not caught a break so far this season. Despite having a stellar lineup headed by Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire, they are just 4-14. Instead of continuing with a lineup that just is not winning, the Knicks could consider rebuilding by trading away some key players.

J.R. Smith could be one of the players to go. Smith's shots have not been falling this year. His lackluster performance also got him benched during the Knicks versus Miami game.

4. Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls has depended a lot on the health of their superstar point guard, Derrick Rose. Although Rose certainly lives up to the hype, he has not been able to stay healthy since tearing his ACL during his 2011-2012 season. Rose returned the following season but his return was short-lived after he tore his meniscus. Although

Rose has been injury-free so far this season, the Bulls could consider finding a more reliable point guard that could make them a much bigger threat.

5. Los Angeles Lakers

Even though Kobe Bryant has returned to the Los Angeles Lakers, it came at a cost. The Lakers shelled out a lot of money for Bryant, who is currently leading the league in scoring. However, the Lakers' defensive unit, which is currently ranked last in points allowed, has not been able to stop the opposing teams.

By adding defensive players up front, the team could turn their season around.

The NBA trade deadline will be Feb. 19, at 3pm EST.
