Social activists who are furious with the fact that two Cleveland police officers will not be charged in the 2014 fatal shooting of Tamir Rice back have turned to Cavaliers star, LeBron James for help.

The activists, headed by writer Tariq Touré, are asking James to refuse to play until the Department of Justice "imprisons the murders of Tamir Rice." The Twitter campaign is using the hashtag "#NoJusticeNoLebron."

James has previously showed his support when he donned clothing referencing the shooting of Trayvon Martin in 2012. The basketball star also spoke about Rice's death, stating, "Our families are losing loved ones. I'm not pointing the blame at anybody that's making it happen. In society, we've come a long way, but it just goes to show how much further we still have to go," quoted by Cleveland.com.

Supporters of the campaign have pointed out instances in the past where athletes have displayed their power and influence without being pushed to do so. Some pointed to boxer Mohammad Ali, who refused to be drafted in the Army.

James has not responded to the campaign but many have begun to call out the player, stating that he should use his voice to help Rice. Others have come to his defense, arguing that it is unfair to put the entire case and its burdens on a single person.

Rice, 12, was fatally shot in November 2014 by two white male officers, who were responding to a call about a black male pointing a gun at people in a park. In the dispatch call, the person pointed out the possibility of the gun being fake. However, this information was not relayed to the two officers, Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback.

When Loehmann and Garmback arrived, they shot Rice when he reportedly reached for the gun at his waistband. Rice did not receive any medical care and died the following day. The gun was indeed fake.
