Storm Death Toll Climbs To 43, More Bad Weather In Store
At least 43 people have been killed due to the storm that ravaged Southern US in the last week.
According to NBC News, severe weather has claimed lives in most states of mid-south US, with Mississippi, Missouri and Texas being among the worst hit. Deadly tornadoes in Dallas ripped homes and tossed cars into buildings, killing nine on Saturday. Other states are witnessing heavy rains and snow, even as warnings are pouring in about more extreme weather events.
Eights deaths were reported in Missouri, including four soldiers who died when they drove their car onto an inundated road and were immediately swept away. Rescue teams found the vehicle with two bodies inside and two other bodies away from the vehicle, Fox reports. Flooding promoted Governor Jay Nixon to declare emergency even as he advised residents to not travel if avoidable.
New Mexico and Oklahoma have been issued snow warnings from the National Weather Service, which according to CNN, has warned of 8 inches of snow. Around five people have died in Illinois due to flash floods. Over 1,000 flights have been cancelled by Monday and nearly twice as many delayed to the stormy weather. Power outages have been reported across most of the region as power lines were disrupted even as emergency teams kept off people from damaged property fearing injuries.
