Die Hard- A Perfect Christmas Movie?
Some 13% of people who participated in the Carolina-based polling agency, 'Public Policy Polling' said that Die Hard, a 1988 movie with lead star Bruce Willis, is a Christmas movie!
The results of the survey was released on Tuesday this week further revealing that 62% of the survey disagreed that it is a movie appropriate for Christmas, Fox 8 Cleveland said.
It was also learned in the survey that Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer is still one of the most favorite Christmas symbols as it got a 46% from the respondents.
Entertainment Weekly remembered some facts of the film that may qualify it as a Christmas movie.
First, it followed the classic pattern of story-telling in films. It is not your usual heart-warming tale in Love Actually or Home Alone where all characters are smiling in the end but it is set on Christmas time with John McClane/Bruce Willis trying to be at home for Christmas Eve. However, McClane's goal was stopped along the way as a Hans Gruber acted like that greedy, Grinch trying to spoil the Bedford Falls community.
The movie was also successful in implicitly discussing Christmas issues in the modern world such its stand against consumerism and sexism. In the end, McClane's Christmas has been more meaningful by saving the whole community.
And the movie uses Christmas symbols and names. McClane's wife is named Holly, a very famous ornament for the season. Hans Gruber also sounded like Franz Gruber, the composer of the classic Silent Night!
The audience will also be entertained as the dialogues among characters made mention of familiar Christmas lines. "Now I have a machine gun, ho-ho-ho..." as McClane's famous line goes.
The survey also included other movies in their list: "It's A Wonderful Life," "White Christmas," "The Shop Around The Corner," Huffington Post reported.
