Ryan Mallett Says he has received help for personal issues, set to sign with the Ravens

Ryan Mallett will get a second shot at the NFL this season.

The quarterback is reportedly set to sign with the Baltimore Ravens after he told the team that he has received help for his personal problems. Mallett, 27, was released by the Houston Texans on Oct. 27 for behavioral issues. Mallett had missed a team meeting on the day after he was told by head coach Bill O'Brien that the starting position will be going to Brian Hoyer.

Although O'Brien let that mishap go, he did not give Mallett a second chance when the athlete missed a team flight to Miami.

The Ravens, who is coming off of a 35-6 loss against the Seattle Seahawks, need to strengthen their offense, especially after they lost Joe Flacco to a knee injury for the rest of the season. The team reportedly sees Mallett as "a talented guy," who can become a vital part of their offense.

The Raven's backup quarterback Matt Schaub also sustained a chest injury that should not, however, prevent him from playing this week. In Sunday's game, the Ravens went to their third quarterback option, Jimmy Clausen, who went 23-for-40 for 274 yards with no touchdown passes and one interception.

Ravens' head coach, John Harbaugh, did not confirm the early reprots that they were bringing in Mallett.

"No, I can't confirm it. I haven't been informed of that. We worked him out a couple of weeks ago," Harbaugh said Monday afternoon reported by ESPN.com. "He had a good workout. He had some personal things that he had to work through. If [the signing] happens in the near future, that would be great. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. But that's not something I've been told that we've done to date."

Mallett and the Ravens will finalize the contract, which is reportedly worth up to $2.6 million in 2016, on Tuesday in Baltimore.

The Ravens will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1:00 p.m.
