Did San Bernardino Killers Raise Red Flags That Were Ignored In The Past?
As more details from the investigations into the San Bernardino shooting, law enforcement agencies realize that the killers raised red flags in the past that may have been overlooked.
According to Fox News, Farook may have planned an attack in 2012 but decided to call it off following arrest of three men in California in connection terrorism. Subsequent interrogation of the men may likely have thrown up names of Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, the killer couple that left 14 dead at San Bernardino's Inland Regional Center on December 2.
The 2012 timeline for an earlier attack also adds up as the assault rifles used by Farook and Malik in the worst ever terrorism attack on US soil since 9/11, was purchased in 2012 by Farook's neighbour Enrique Marquez. Marquez is being interviewed by investigators. It was Marquez who led officials to believe that Farook had planned an attack in 2012.
Meanwhile, investigators in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are working to gather details about Malik's life. Malik's possible ties with a mosque that is known to have links with extremists emerged through investigations in Pakistan.
Investigators in the US are looking for electronic equipment in the Seccombe Lake just miles away from the shooting site after leads emerged that the killer couple visited the lake before carrying out the deadly attack, reports LA Times.
