Nicki Minaj’s Older Brother Charged with Raping a Minor
Jelani Maraj, the older brother of international artist, Nicki Minaj, has been charged with raping a 12-year-old girl in Long Island, several media outlets reported. The case was first reported by Newsday.
Maraj, 37, was arraigned on a first-degree rape and first-degree course of sexual conduct against a minor this Thursday and was held at a jail in Nassau County. He was released after posting a $100,000 bail but is due back on Dec. 9.
"The victim was someone he had access to," a source revealed reported by the New York Daily News.
FOX News reported that under New York law, an adult can be found guilty in the first degree if the adult carried out "two or more acts of sexual conduct" over a span of more than three months with a minor under the age of 13.
Maraj got married a few months ago to his long-time girlfriend, Jacqueline Robinson. Minaj, 32, reportedly shelled out about $30,000 to help pay for his wedding, which took place at the Coral house in Baldwin, N.Y.
At the time, the "Anaconda" singer had written via Instagram, "I would cross the ocean for u. I would go & bring u the moon. Promise u. For u I will. I love my brother so much man. Can't believe I cried during his wedding and his first dance like a punk. May God bless him and his union. Tonight has been one of my favorite nights of all time. I do anything to see my brothers smile."
Minaj has not released any statements in regards to her brother's arrest.
Based on her social media, Minaj is due to perform in Las Vegas with her boyfriend, Meek Mill at a New Year's Eve party on Dec. 31.
