San Bernardino Shooters Were Man And Wife
Police gunned two alleged shooters in San Bernardino, identified as 28-year-old Syed Rizwan Farook and a 27-year-old woman suspected to be his wife.
Wednesday's shooting at the city's Inland Regional Center left 14 dead and 17 injured. The shooters opened fire at a holiday party and fled from the scene in a black SUV. Law enforcement agencies arrived at the spot within minutes and lockdown the area down. A massive hunt was launched for the killers.
According to LA Times, the SUV was spotted four hours later about two miles from the shooting site. Officers gave chase and traded fire even as television crew covered the chase from above. The suspects were killed in the shootout that also left an officer injured.
Police have learnt that Farook attended the party at the center and left in a huff, The Washington Post reports. He returned with the woman, Tashfeen Malik, heavily armed and opened fire. The police found two rifles and handguns in the couple's car. An object suspected to be an explosive was also found at the center.
The motive for the killing is yet to become clear, though cops have not ruled terrorism. Senior officials were quoted saying that the couple came prepared as they were in assault gear. Some of the weapons found on them were also legally purchased.
Farook's brother-in-law told the media that he was shocked and had no idea why the 28-year-old would go on a killing spree.
