Actor Charlie Sheen Expected to Announce that he is HIV Positive
Actor Charlie Sheen will be making a huge announcement about his health on the "Today" show Tuesday morning. According to several sources, Sheen, 50, will reportedly tell the NBC host, Matt Lauer that he is HIV positive.
NBC has advertised Sheen's segment as a sit down with Lauer for a "revealing personal announcement."
PEOPLE is reporting that Howard Bragman, who is one of Hollywood's top publicist and crisis manager, was brought in about six months ago to deal with something personal for the actor.
"The interview could open up a lot of sympathy for him, but he has to be concerned about a fear of litigation from former sexual partners. You don't take that lightly," he said. "It's been going on for quite awhile. He's not necessarily comfortable talking about it. It was very hard to get up the courage for him to talk about it. I've known about this a long time, it's not a surprise to me. I feel very sorry for his pain. And I hope it's used as a teachable moment for the world. This is a disease that can affect anyone."
Bragman also revealed that Sheen is receiving treatment for the incurable virus that causes AIDS.
A National Enquirer story, via the New York Daily News, claimed that their 18-month investigation revealed that Sheen has been keeping his HIV positive diagnosis a secret for years despite boasting that he has slept with so many women.
"Charlie thought he was indestructible and took no precautions - even though he was indulging in high-risk sex practices," an anonymous friend said.
The article also reported that Sheens' ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, insinuated that he could have infected her with the virus. Other women are also allegedly furious that Sheen exposed them to HIV.
"Charlie hired escorts, and him being HIV positive never entered these women's minds," another source said according to the story. "The fact is, he was playing Russian roulette with their lives, while the women were playing Russian roulette with the prospect of becoming pregnant by Sheen, and being set for life."
The Enquirer also claims to have a video of Scottine Ross/Bretti Rossi yelling at Sheen for not telling her that he has HIV. The adult film star was previously engaged to Sheen.
Sheen has a history of substance abuse.
His more recent works include TV shows, "Two and a Half Men" and "Anger Management."
