David Sweat, one of the two who escaped a high-security New York prison earlier this year, pleaded guilty to charges of prison break. He faces a 14-year jail term in addition to the life-term he was serving.

According to CNN, Sweat pleaded guilty to two counts of escape in first degree and one count of promoting prison contraband. Richard Matt, the 53-year-old man who escaped with 35-year-old Sweat in June, prompting a three-week massive manhunt, was shot dead by cops. Sweat was injured in the firing and captured near the Canadian border.

Sweat and Matt escaped with assistance from prison staff Joyce Mitchell. New York Post reports that Mitchell, who admitted to having sex with the men, provided them tools including a saw to escape from the Clinton Correctional Facility. The duo was on the run for 22 days before law enforcement officials closed in. Mitchell was sentenced to up to seven years in prison for felony and misdemeanor.

Senior officials have said that a report will soon be made public revealing failures in the system that allowed the duo to escape. Sweat's sentencing for prison break is scheduled on February 3.
