Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Metta World Peace Makes Final Roster, Jabari Brown Out
Metta World Peace has made it on the Los Angeles Lakers 15-man roster. The veteran, who turns 36 next month, beat out 22-year-old Jabari Brown, for the final spot.
World Peace played for the Lakers between 2009 and 2013. After a short stint in New York, World Peace went abroad to play in Italy and China leagues. World Peace was welcomed back to the Lakers during the offseason reportedly to mentor second-year rookie, Julius Randle.
World Peace has been working with Randle these past few months. Randle is recovering from a broken leg that he sustained during his first ever NBA game last season. World Peace is also expected to take on a leadership role alongside Kobe Bryant for the team's young players who include, Randle, D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson.
Although World Peace has not played in an NBA game in a while, his defensive skills can come in handy for the Lakers. Head coach Byron Scott has stressed the importance of a strong defense.
During World Peace's four years with the Lakers, he averaged 9.9 points and 4.0 rebounds. In his career, he has averaged 13.7 points with 4.7 rebounds
Brown could play for the Lakers' Development League team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders. However, Brown and the Lakers have not commented about his future. Brown averaged 12 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 19 games last season.
The Lakers will be opening their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
