NBA Rumors: Three Key Players who will be Ready for the Season Opener
The start to the 2015-16 NBA season is just one day away and fans can expect some of the league's best players to immediately start leading their teams. Here are three key players who should be ready for the season opener:
1. LeBron James
LeBron James, the leader of the Cleveland Cavaliers, will be playing in the Tuesday night opener against the Chicago Bulls. James recently received an anti-inflammatory injection in his back, leading fans to speculate whether or not he could start on Tuesday. James attended his first practice since sitting out of the rest of the preseason and looked pretty good. He should be ready for the opener.
"I haven't gotten to this point by cheating the game," the four-time MVP said. "If I'm capable of practicing, I will practice. If I'm capable of playing, I'll play. When I'm not, I'll quit. The game has gave too much for me to ever cheat the game. That's not how I was born. That's not how I was taught. And when I'm not able to do it to my level, then I'll quit. It's that simple."
James added that his body feels good right now. James being healthy is extremely important for the Cavaliers, who are dealing with injuries to other key players, particularly point guard Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert. Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Timofey Mozgov and Anderson Varejao are healthy but still working on their game.
The Cavaliers play the Bulls Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
2. Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose, who is coming back from a left orbital bone fracture, is expected to play on Tuesday. Head coach Fred Hoiberg has not decided on whether or not he will start Rose or use him off of the bench. Hoiberg also does not know if Rose's court time will need to be limited.
"We play three (games) in four days to start, so we'll have to be a little more careful because he hasn't had a ton of reps," Hoiberg said.
Even though Rose has not been able to practice a lot, teammate Taj Gibson only had positive things to say about Rose's game.
"He's in top form," Gibson said. "We've been talking a lot of trash to him, throwing so many bodies at him, and he's been responding well. We couldn't stop him."
3. Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bryant, who has been sidelined over the majority of the past two seasons due to injuries, will be making his return in the Los Angeles Lakers season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Bryant, 37, went through a full practice session on Sunday and although he did not talk to reporters after practice, head coach Byron Scott reassured fans that Bryant is good to go.
"Yeah, I told him if he couldn't go [Sunday], [Monday] we could start worrying," Scott said after practice. "He walked out [Sunday], he said it felt good. He gave me a thumbs-up. Went through the scrimmage and everything. You can see a little rust, but other than that, he was moving pretty fluid again. It was just good to see."
Teammate Metta World Peace also commented on Bryant's game.
"He played well. He was shooting in people's faces," World Peace said.
The Lakers play the Timberwolves on Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
