‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Update: Producer Defends Casting an Older Batman, Says Age will not Limit their Creativity
A lot of fans were extremely critical of the decision to cast Ben Affleck as Batman/ Bruce Wayne. Although the announcement was made a while ago and fans have somewhat accepted Affleck as the next dark crusader, many are still wondering whether or not an older Batman will limit what the studio can do with the DC extended universe.
Producer David Goyer does not think so.
"I don't think it's a restriction," Goyer said in regards to Batman's age. "It's a choice, you know, and there's a different choice than some of the previous cinematic iterations, and it comes with its own restrictions, but it's its own opportunity to do something different."
It is also important to note that this version of Batman was heavily influenced by Frank Miller's comic book, "The Dark Knight Returns." In that story line, an older Batman comes out of retirement in order to carry out a few more epic missions.
In the highly anticipated "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," Affleck will be playing a semi-retired Batman. The movie will be picking off where "Man of Steel" left off. Batman and Superman/Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) will be on opposite sides. A huge battle will be between the two is expected.
"You kind of have to understand both of their point of views," director Zack Synder explained to Total Film via Games Radar about pitting the superheroes against one another.. "I think you're sympathetic to both, in a weird way. It's inevitable, like two trains heading at each other on the same track."
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is opening in theaters on March 25, 2016.
