It seems like Tristan Thompson will not be getting the max contract that he has been eyeing throughout the offseason.

According to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com, there is reportedly "no communication" between the Cleveland Cavaliers and 24-year-center.

Per Haynes:

"There's no communication ongoing between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Thompson's agents, Rich Paul and Mark Termini, Northeast Ohio Media Group has learned.

In fact, there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency from either side in reaching an agreement. And that means Thompson's stalemate will continue to hover over the organization like a black cloud, a cloud LeBron James considers 'a distraction.'

There are two options for the power forward, and he's actually executing the first one by holding out until Paul feels the contract numbers are up to par with his age and skillset.

The second option is sitting out the entire season, and that option could prove to be more financially beneficial.

At 24, Thompson would remain a restricted free agent in the summer of 2016, but this time around 20-plus clubs will have sizable cap space with the salary-cap spike. It is estimated that on an average for next season, teams will have $33 million in cap space available."

Haynes added that even though the two sides have not been negotiating, the Cavalier's original offer of five-years, $80 million is still on the table.

If neither side budges, Thompson would remain a restricted free agent for next year. The Cavaliers would be able to match any offer he gets then.

Losing Thompson for an entire season might not be desirable for the Cavaliers. Not only would Thompson be vital for the injured Cavaliers team, James was also very vocal about keeping Thompson in Cleveland earlier in the offseason.

"I try not to get involved in that, as far as what the team is speaking on or talking about," James said in regards to Thompson's holdout. "It's basically more on a personal level, asking him how he's doing and if his mind is right and things of that nature. There's a lot of things that's much bigger than basketball, even though I know he would love to be here right now and we would love to have him here, but I kind of stray away from that."

Thompson averaged 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds during the 2014-15 season.
