You might never think it worth your while to spend a couple of minutes removing your earrings before you sleep, but skin specialists advise you to do it. Dr. Marina Peredo, for instance, explains that you should wear only clean jewellery, according to HNGN.

If it is unclean it could be irritating to the skin, leading to rashes or blisters. "Metals that are added to gold and silver such as nickel can be extremely irritating to the skin," said Peredo.

Those who are older or under medication or suffering from a sleep condition tend to suffer from night sweats, according to the National Health Services. "Perspiration can also cause a reaction between the jewelry and skin as well as the interaction of certain medications, jewelry and skin," Peredo added.

Continuous friction between newly pierced ears and unsterile earrings leads to ear problems, according to a study  done by researchers at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. What better way to get rid of your problems than removing your earrings?

Moreover, you could be doing your earlobes a disservice by wearing big, heavy or detailed earrings, which could make your sleeping times uncomfortable. The earrings would be sure to snag on the pillow, blanket, or your hair. Moreover, heavy earrings could give you elongated or sagging lobes, say plastic surgeons. They may even have a tendency to age. "The earlobe is an unusual body structure as it has skin on two sides. This makes it prone to water loss and sun exposure. Consequently daily moisturizers and sunblock with SPF 15 or higher will likely delay the aging process," said Dr. Edward Miranda.

Finally, spare a thought to your earrings! Earrings could lead to some damage to them, as the gemstones might get looser or the prongs might wear out.
