Indian teen cut off uncle's penis when he tried to rape her for a second time

An Indian teenager cut off her uncle's penis after he tried to rape her for the second time.

The Times of India says the incident occurred in the Madhepura District of the Bihar State, sandwiched between the borders of Nepal and Bangladesh. The incident occurred on July 2, but was not made widely known until July 30, when a complaint was filed with an all-women police station.

The attacker was a "tantric" or spiritual adviser and practitioner. He was also the girl's maternal uncle. When the victim was sick on July 1, her mother called her brother to give her treatment. The brother, 35-year-old Mahendra Mehta, told the mother that the girl was being influenced by the super natural, and she had to go with him to his house so he could perform the spiritual rites needed to bring the girl back to health. While there, he gagged and raped the young girl.

On July 2, Mehta returned to the girl's house and brought her back to his home to rape her again. Not willing to suffer through the same painful trauma twice, the girl recorded Mehta on her cellphone so that she could prove he was attempting to rape her when she would finally be able to contact the authorities. After making the recording, and as Mehta was about to rape her again, she cut off his penis.

The girl originally sought justice from the local police with her family, but they tried to ignore the ordeal. This appears to be a common police practice in India. It has been reported that when the father of one of two young girls found hung in a mango tree after being raped went to the police, they slapped him.

After not finding satisfaction with the police, the family turned to a local governing body made up of members of the community. This group also failed to deliver justice, choosing instead to take the side of Mehta. It was at this point that the girl located an all-women police station to file her report.

Mehta is currently the subject of a manhunt.
