Indiana 7-year-old Becomes 5th Family Member To Wear Heirloom Sweater For First Grade

When his great-uncle wore a grey sweater in 1954, he never thought that his seven-year-old Indiana great nephew would one day don it too for his first-grade school snap, according to the huffingtonpost.

Brady Gose of Brownsburg was clicked in his first grade school photo with the heirloom sweater, just like his grandfather Charles, who had put on the heirloom sweater for his own grade school photo in 1958. In early October, Brady Gose, 7, thus became the third generation in his family to wear the same sweater for the school picture day.

Five of the Gose males have worn the gray pullover for their first-grade pictures since the 1950s.

Chuck Gose, who was the father of the little boy, then wore the 61-year-old gray sweater in 1982, which hit the eye of everyone.

"If we had a family heirloom, this simple store-bought sweater is it," Chuck said. "I know that he would be proud to see the grandson he never met carrying on the tradition."

The sweater had been chucked into a store-room for 33 years. Later, Chuck took it out and handed it to Brady, who was glad that he could wear the "sentimental sweater" for his school photo, according to HNGN.

"As far as I know, my grandma just purchased it in 1954 and then had my dad and his two brothers all wear it for their first grade picture day as a novelty," Chuck said, according to ABC News.

The Brownsburg community seems to be quite aware of the family's heirloom possession.

"I think it's the simplicity of the story is why people have enjoyed it," he said. "It's not fancy. It's not glamorous. It centers around a symbolic time like school pictures."
