Peeping Toms Make Gender-Neutral Restrooms Close Down At Toronto University
While transgender bathrooms have become very common in the University of Toronto, its administrators were aghast when told that a few of their students were becoming "peeping toms" on their naked classmates, according to The Huffington Post Canada.
Hence, the gender neutral bathrooms at the Whitney Hall co-ed student residence were becoming "voyeuristc" as men were said to be holding cell phones over the shower stalls in order to tape the women taking showers.
Hence, the gender-neutral bathrooms have got closed down since then, although the officials are clear that the closure is only for a while, according to HNGN.
"There has been no change to the designation of gender-neutral washrooms in the other University College Residences or elsewhere on campus as a result of these incidents," they said.
Still, the university is putting aside some bathrooms for some single-sex use until they reopen, say sources.
"Given the serious nature of these incidents and the impact on directly affected students, we made the decision to specifically designate some washrooms in Whitney Hall for those who identify as men and those who identify as women," said Melinda Scott, dean of students at University of Toronto.
Currently, above 50 percent of the restrooms in White Hall are still gender-neutral, according to the Daily Wire.
