How Did ISIS Get So Many Toyota Vehicles Spotted In Propaganda Videos?
How did ISIS get the largest number of Toyota pickup trucks and SUVs spotted so often in its "propaganda videos" shot in Iraq, Syria and Libya?
U.S. officials want to know and are investigating the issue, according to HNGN.
The act is getting the support of Toyota. The investigation headed by the U.S. Treasury's Terror Financing unit, which is part of a larger U.S. effort to stop western-made goods from ending up in the hands of ISIS, is firm that it doesn't know how it happened.
"We briefed Treasury on Toyota's supply chains in the Middle East and the procedures that Toyota has in place to protect supply chain integrity," said Ed Lewis, Toyota's Washington-based director of public policy and communications, according to ABC News.
Toyota's strict policy is to not sell their products to customers who might misuse them for terrorist activities, however, Toyota cannot track down vehicles that have been "stolen or bought and re-sold by middlemen."
Many ISIS propaganda videos shot in Iraq, Syria and Libya had many Hilux and Land Cruiser vehicles that were "emblazoned" with ISIS seals, reported the Week.
ISIS was spotted doing a number of activities right from patrolling to racing.
Lewis said that his inquiry will concentrate on a number of private companies. "Our understanding is that Treasury has been conducting a broad review of supply chains and the flow of goods into the Middle East, including financial institutions, manufacturers and energy companies," he said, according to CNN.
The Treasury Department is collaborating and "working closely with foreign counterparts and stakeholders" on the issue, its main target being the understanding and ending of ISIS' economic activities.
