Demi Lovato Speaks Up About Mental Health Illness; Shares Years Of Pain And Suffering
Demi Lovato supports awareness and the importance of keeping mental health by sharing her share of experience of self-confessed bipolar person.
During the National Council for Behavioral Health's Hill Day in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, the singer spoke about the struggles of having bipolar disorder and how should the government should help people with mental disorders, People reported.
"I went through several years of pain and suffering, and I want to be able to help people and help try to prevent that suffering from happening," she shared.
As the speaker of the government's "Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health" program, the songstress urged "comprehensive mental health reform" and a radical change in people's mindsets to stop stigmatizing mental health patients.
"I think it's important that people no longer look at mental illness as something taboo to talk about. It's something that's extremely common, one in five adults has a mental illness, so basically everyone is essentially connected to this problem and this epidemic," she said.
Demi also spoke about her stand during in a guest appearance at the MSNBC Live With Tamron Hall last week during the wake of the mass shooting at Oregon's Umpqua Community College saying that the public should keep an open-mind about the shooter's mental health, E! Online said.
"Unfortunately, we've had several instances where mental health has been brought to the attention by the media because of these tragedies. I think it's really important to remember that actually mental health-people with mental illness are actually more likely to inflict harm on themselves and become the victim rather than be the perpetrators."
Meanwhile, the Cool This Summer singer is set to perform with ex best friend, Selena Gomez in the upcoming iHeartRadio's 11 Jingle Ball concerts during the December holiday season, according to Mail Online.
The pals, who have an on-and-off friendship, will perform at the Oracle Arena in Oakland on December 3 with Calvin Harris, Nick Jonas, Tove Lo, Shawn Mendes, R. City, Conrad Sewell, Alessia Cara and DNCE.
