Hospitalized Pele's Condition Improves
Brazilian football legend Pele, who was admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital earlier this week, is better now, a statement released by Albert Einstein Hospital Thursday evening revealed.
Earlier, the hospital had issued a release stating that the condition of Pele, who had reportedly been admitted for treatment of a urinary tract infection, was "unstable".
The Thursday evening report also stated that the former player would be relocating to the Intensive Care Unit as he required a kidney dialysis machine that was placed in the ICU. "He is now temporarily on renal support without any additional support," read the statement, CNN reports.
Pele, 74, took to Twitter to inform his fans that the widespread reports that his condition and worsened were wrong. "I want to take this opportunity to let you know that I am doing fine. I was not put into intensive care today, I was simply relocated to a special room within the hospital for privacy purposes only," he said.
Pele had undergone a surgery Nov. 13 to get kidney stones removed, but was readmitted to the hospital Monday after he was diagnosed with the infection. He has been in the hospital eversince.
The three-time World Cup winner's manager has already made a public statement that Pele would soon make a "quick and full" recovery from the "minor" infection, Fox News reports.
Pele said: "I am blessed to receive your love and support, and thank God this is nothing serious. I am looking forward to spending the upcoming holidays with my family, and will start the New Year with renewed health, with many international trips already planned! Thank you!"
