Thousands gather for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Hundreds of thousands of people converged on downtown Manhattan in order to enjoy the sights and sounds of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
According to Macy's website, this is the 88th iteration of the parade, which started in 1984. It features marching bands, enormous inflatable balloons, and dancing and singing performances. An estimated 3.5 million people attend the parade in person, while another 50 million Americans throughout the country gather together with family to watch on television.
NBC says that 8,000 people in total will participated in the parade.
As the parade kicked into gear, people began to share images of the festivities on social media.
