Chris Brown, the American star will not be permitted into Australia for his concert tour in December, as he had been convicted for attacking pop star Rihanna, the Associated Press reported.

Michaelia Cash, the Minister for Women in Australia, suggested that on character grounds she wanted that Immigration Minister Peter Dutton should not allow the 25-year-old inside. Hence, the immigration minister "will be looking at this very, very seriously," she said, according to CNN.

"People need to understand if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you: 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character we expect in Australia,'" Cash said.

An online petition that got 10,000 hits by a "community advocacy group" called "GetUp!" had called for the Australian government to turn down Brown's visa.

In 2010, UK too denied Brown access to perform, as did Canada, where he had been turned away at the border. Britain called him a danger to its citizens, and forced him to cancel all his plans.

Brown was placed on five years probation in 2009 after he pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault for hitting his girlfriend at the time, Rihanna. He went to jail for almost three months last year when he violated his probation, according to HNGN.
