Huge Bee Attack Hospitalizes 4 In Arizona Suburb
The suburban Phoenix neighborhood of Gilbert Tuesday had a new kind of terrorist attack. It made residents run to their homes and hide before firefighters managed to chase off the attackers---bee swarms.
There were four people who got attacked and hospitalized, including a firefighter who had 40 to 50 bee stings on his face, according to Reuters.
Every year, the firefighters grapple with the problem, but this year it has been high, though no one knows why.
Reports of children getting attacked by the swarms made firefighters to rush in.
"Our crews were told that a couple kids had been stung but there were so many bees they couldn't get inside the home," said Mike Connor, a deputy chief with the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department, NBC News reported. "Basically they just started putting foam on the front of the house. It wasn't a hive, they were swarming."
The crews too were threatened and wore fire suits to protect themselves. They entered the house through the back door, and finally met the five family members who had summoned them. All of them had got stung, and three residents, a 3-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman had got hospitalized, according to the New York Daily News.
Through the incident, one of the firefighters got stung even though he wore his protective suit. He too got hospitalized for his injuries.
Connor cautions everyone to keep away from the bee infestation.
"If you find a hive, leave it alone," he concluded, according to hngn.
