Drones Armed With Destructive Lasers Might Soar In 2017
The defence is not looking ahead towards a "missile-based weaponry to unmanned drones that are armed with high energy lasers". This could be achieved in just a few years, according to DefenseOne.
This exciting new kind of drone with a high-powered 150 kilowatt laser is being developed by the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, based in San Diego.
The GA-ASI company provides government aerial drones support in targeted strikes and survey. With laser technology, it has also given the Pentagon access to a liquid laser system.
"We're funded right now to develop a laser module compatible with the aircraft and study putting it on the Avenger," said Michael Perry, vice-president of GA-ASI's mission systems.
Right now private funding is driving the project while there are estimates that it will become a reality by 2017, InfoWars reported.
"Before you spend any money on a laser, you better darn well show that you can acquire, ID, and track the objects of interest so that you could put a laser on them," Perry said.
It is starting its test of a solid version of the laser tech, according to HNGN.
