Dallas Mavericks Rumors: Chandler Parsons, Wesley Matthews Not Healthy Enough for Training Camp?
Dallas Mavericks Chandler Parsons, Wesley Matthews and JaVale McGee might not be healthy enough to start training camp, sources revealed according to ESPN.com. All three players are expected to take it easy before returning to full participation.
Forward Parsons underwent surgery at the end of last season to repair cartilage in his right knee. He has remained hopeful that he will be able to play in the season opener on Oct. 28. Shooting guard Matthews signed with the Mavericks in free agency when he was still recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon. He also believes that he will be healthy enough for the season opener.
Veteran center McGee is recovering from a stress fracture in his left tibia. He is also dealing with complications from that injury. His return might not as soon as the other two players. Training camp begins next week.
"This will be the most competitive training camp we've had in my 18 years here," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said. "There are lots of positions up for grabs, and everyone's got a shot."
The Mavericks need Parsons and Matthews healthy next season especially after they let Monta Ellis leave in free agency. Parson, who barely played in the postseason, averaged 15.7 points and 4.9 rebounds in the regular season. Matthews, for the Portland Trail Blazers, averaged 15.9 points and 3.7 rebounds.
