‘Fast and Furious 8’ Cast Update: Angelina Jolie to play the Villain?
Angelina Jolie's name continues to pop up in every "Fast and Furious 8" rumor even though there has been no concrete evidence that the actress and the producers of the franchise have talked about a potential role.
The rumors claim that Jolie, 40, might be joining the cast as the main villain in the eighth movie. These rumors first started when Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty, said to Entertainment Weekly that Jolie would be her dream co-star.
Even though Jolie would be a great addition to the franchise, she will most likely not have the time to play a major role. Jolie is working on her first Netflx movie, "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers."
"As Maddox and I prepare the film we will be side by side learning about his country. He is turning 14 next week and this is a very important time for him to understand who he is. He is my son but he is also a son of Cambodia. This is the time for our family to understand all that that means to him and to us. My desire to tell this story in the most truthful and accurate way possible will be my tribute to the strength and dignity of all Cambodian people," Jolie said back in July. The intent of this project is not to revisit the horrors of the war but to bring to the screen characters that people around the world will empathize with, and to help other people to learn about Cambodia. What is special about this particular story is that it is told from the perspective of a 5-year-old child, and is based on a child's emotional experience of war. It sheds light not only on the experience of children during the genocide in Cambodia but of all children who endure war."
Even if Jolie will not be able to star, there have been several other actresses linked to the movie. These actresses include "Orange is the New Black" Ruby Rose, Helen Mirren and "Paper Towns" Cara Delevingne. Eva Mendes is also rumored to be reprising her role as special agent Monica Fuentes.
So far, not much is known about the plot of "Fast 8," which is the unconfirmed title that Vin Diesel used. Diesel revealed that it will be set in New York while Rodriguez stated that the movie will honor the late Paul Walker's wishes.
"Fast 8" has an April 14, 2017 release date.
